| Overview | The School of Nursing and Midwifery offers the following Master in Science in Nursing. The purpose of the programme is to enable students to develop the knowledge, skills and attitudes necessary to care for patients to the highest professional standards across the health care continuum. The modules offered are grounded in a body of evidence-based knowledge that promotes excellence in nursing practice. |

Course Duration |
The programme takes place over two years on a part-time basis or one year on a full-time basis. A blended learning approach is utilised in the delivery of theoretical content, including lectures, group discussion, WebCT and self directed learning. The assessment process used is a combination of written and practical assignments. Year one of the part-time taught masters course starts with a full week on 16 September 2013 and continues with classes on the following Thursdays until 12 December 2013. There is a break then before it recommences on 16 January 2014 and continues on Thursdays until the end of March or early April. Teaching and learning includes some web-based learning. Attendance in Year 2 of the M.Sc. course involves attending eleven workshops scheduled between end of September 2013 and end of February 2014. These workshops are designed to support students as they progress through the various stages of their final year dissertation. Students will be free to attend any of the workshops on offer. At the end of Year 2, M.Sc. students will produce a dissertation on a chosen subject related to their field of study. Full-time students attend on scheduled Wednesdays and Thursdays. |

Information for nurses who wish to apply to register as a nurse tutor with theNursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland (RNT) Note, the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland is the regulatory body for the nursing and midwifery professions in Ireland. Registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland is mandatory in order to practice as a Registered Nurse or Registered Midwife in Ireland. One of the entry requirements of this course is that the nurse applicants must be currently registration on the appropriate division of the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland live register. | Progression | All students register on the M. Sc. programme in the first instance. On successful completion of all the requirements of the first year, students may progress to the second year of the programme during which they complete a dissertation; or may opt to exit and be awarded a Postgraduate Diploma. |
