Psychiatric diseases and drug abuse
Research in this area is focused on developing improved models for diseases such as Depression in an effort to understand the cellular and molecular mechanisms involved and thereby discover novel therapies. Research also aims to develop our understanding of the neurobiological actions of drugs of abuse such as Cannabis, Ecstasy and Cocaine. Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) is a key technology used in this research programme, and is used to compare functional brain activity of healthy individuals with those affected by drugs of abuse.
