Neural development and plasticity
The research groups in this thematic area study the development, function and plasticity of neuronal circuitry that underlies brain function. A key focus is analysis of genetic factors associated with diseases of the brain. We probe genetic and cellular mechanisms of synaptic and behavioural plasticity, for example, in the relatively simple neural networks that drive Drosophila olfactory behaviour. We also study how neuronal circuits yield specific patterns of activity and how these activity patterns influence, and are influenced, by experience or disease.
