Internships

Internship in the Department involves perfecting many techniques

Internships

Trinity College Library Dublin has provided internships for conservators for the past two decades, with participants from all over the world benefiting from the expertise provided by the Department. Since 2008 the Library has been able to offer fully funded internships in partnership with the Heritage Council of Ireland.

Heritage Council Internships

The Heritage Council of Ireland provides annual funds for Conservation Internships and Work Placements, as part of the Council's commitment to the promotion of best practice for conservation across Ireland. The Library has participated in the programme since 2008, offering one-year funded internships for graduates of conservation courses, and four-week summer placements for students undertaking training courses. Details of these are posted at the Heritage Council site.

Current and Prospective Interns

Catt Baum, an honours graduate of the MA in Book Conservation at Camberwell College of Arts, London, was awarded the 2008/9 Trinity College Dublin Internship in Parchment Conservation.

The focus of the programme was the conservation and re-housing of parchment deeds dating from the 14th-17th centuries; the treatment of two 16th century vellum bindings; and the treatment of a manuscript fragment from the 13th century.
