Biography
Milana Karayanidi holds an LL.M. in International business law from Aberystwyth University, Wales and a B.A. (Honours) in International Law from Kazakh National University named by Al-Farabi. As an undergraduate law student in Kazakhstan, Milana has won a highly competitive fellowship from the Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs, United States Department of State. This has enabled her to go to the USA for a year and study International Business.
Milana has worked as a legal consultant at Deloitte in Kazakhstan, where she consulted foreign firms on carrying out business in Kazakhstan. She has interned at the Hague Conference on private international law, and conducted research relating to the Hague Conventions on international legal and judicial cooperation.
Milana’s doctoral research at Trinity College concerns jurisdiction in civil and commercial matters under the supervision of Dr. Niamh Connolly. Milana’s research aims to understand and critically evaluate similarities and differences of the UK and Russian rules of adjudicative jurisdiction in international commercial contracts. The research seeks to identify the key elements for transaction planning for commercial parties doing business in the UK and Russia and to introduce some new suggestions on improvement of the existing mechanisms of jurisdiction in the UK and Russia
