Biography
Dr Deirdre Ahern is an Assistant Professor and Fellow of Trinity College Dublin. She has an LLB degree and a PhD from Trinity College Dublin and a Masters in Commercial Law from the University of Cambridge.
Dr Ahern’s main research interest lies in the area of corporate law and governance and she is the author of a leading text on the legal obligations of company directors, Directors’ Duties: Law and Practice (Round Hall, 2009). A member of the European Corporate Governance Institute, Dr Ahern serves on the executive editorial board of The Company Lawyer and is Ireland editor of the Journal of Business Law.
Dr Ahern is a research associate with Trinity College’s Institute for International Integrational Studies (IIIS) and Social Policy and Ageing Research Centre (SPARC). She is currently the President, and was formerly Secretary, of the Irish Association of Law Teachers and is the Director of the Irish Corporate Law Forum. Dr Ahern was formerly a practising commercial solicitor and a principal officer in the Law Reform Commission.

An Examination of the Shareholders' Right Directive
This project involved examining the legal and practical implications for Ireland of implementing the Shareholders' Rights Directive including issues such as proxy voting and the right of shareholders to ask questions

The Legal Duties of Nominee Directors
This project focused on examining how the conflict of duties of nominee directors, based on the expectation that a nominee director would further their appointer's interest rather than those of the company, can be legally resolved
