Italian Cultural Institute brings Italian writers to Ireland
MARCELLO FOIS, novelist, playwright and creative writing professor, was the first vsitor in a rolling programme of Italian writers speaking at Irish universities, under the auspices of the Istituto Italiano di Cultura, Dublin. On 23 March 2011 Fois gave a public interview to Dr Gigliola Sulis of the University of Leeds, before a large and appreciative audience in the Neill/Hoey Theatre at Trinity's new LONG ROOM HUB building. The session was introduced by Prof. Angela Tangianu, Director of the Istituto Italiano di Cultura, and Dr Giuliana Adamo of the Department of Italian, TCD. Marcello Fois went on to speak at University College Cork, where he also gave a Masterclass with Don Paterson. More Italian writers will visit Trinity later in the year.
RECENT STAFF PUBLICATIONS include a collection of essays on contemporary Italian literature, edited by Roberto Bertoni; a monograph on Calvino and the theatre by IRCHSS Postdoctoral Fellow Enrica Ferrara; and an Italian translation (by Alessandra di Luzio) of a novel by Cormac Ó Cuilleanáin, otherwise known as Cormac Millar.
