Italian Department honours and achievements, 2008/09
In the past year, Italian Department members have achieved a number of honours at national and international level:
GIULIANA ADAMO was awarded a Fulbright research fellowship to the USA; she is spending the academic year 2008/2009 researching at Harvard University. Her latest book, Volta la carta la ze finia. Luigi Meneghello. Biografia per immagini, jointly edited with Pietro De Marchi, was published by Effigie in Milan (June 2008).
ROBERTO BERTONI became a Fellow of Trinity College Dublin, and was conferred with the rank of Commendatore in the "Ordine della Stella della Solidarietà" by the President of Italy. His latest collection of creative texts, Fili, was published in 2008 by Manni Editori in San Cesario di Lecce.
ENRICA FERRARA joined the Italian Department in October 2008 as a Postdoctoral Fellow holding a two-year award from the Irish Research Council for the Humanities and Social Sciences. She is researching modern Italian literary history, including the relationship between theatre and narrative.
CORINNA SALVADORI LONERGAN has been elected President of AIPI, the Associazione Internazionale dei Professori d'Italiano, an association bringing together university teachers of Italian from some thirty different countries.
CORMAC Ó CUILLEANÁIN is a joint editor of Translation and Censorship (2008), a collection of essays from the first Trinity College Dublin translation conference, held in 2005. A second international conference, Translation Right or Wrong, was held in March 2009, with administrative help from the Italian Department's interns Valentina Salis and Antonella Trombatore. The conference was attended by over 90 participants from a dozen countries.
