To celebrate the bicentenary of the Italian poet Giacomo Leopardi (1798-1837), Marco Sonzogni of the Department of Italian, Trinity College Dublin, edited a book of creative responses to Leopardi by over a hundred Irish poets, including Gerald Dawe, Seamus Deane, Seamus Heaney, Rita Ann Higgins, Brendan Kennelly, Thomas Kinsella, Michael Longley, Catherine Phil McCarthy, Medbh McGuckian, Paula Meehan, John Montague, Eiléan Ní Chuilleanáin, Nuala Ní Dhomhnaill, Julie O'Callaghan, Bernard O'Donoghue, Gabriel Rosenstock, Matthew Sweeney and Macdara Woods. The book was published in 1998 by one of Ireland's leading poetry houses, The Dedalus Press, 24 The Heath, Cypress Downs, Dublin 6W. The ISBN is 1 901233 07 3 (paperback) and 1 901233 27 8 (hardcover). This was the third major Leopardi publication produced in Dublin in recent years.
