Admissions

The School of Irish has the following specific requirements for admission to its courses:

  1. For the single honor course in Early and Modern Irish (TR022) as well as the half moderatorship (TSM) in Early or Modern Irish (TR001): a minimum of grade C in Irish at Leaving Certificate (higher level) or grade C at General Certificate of Education ('A' level).
  2. For Computer Science, linguistics and a language (Irish; TR013): a minimum of grade B3 in Irish at Leaving Certificate (higher level) or grade B at General Certificate of Education ('A' level).
  3. For 'Irish Literature and the Irish language' and 'Elementary Irish' (one-year visiting students): no specific requirements.
  4. For post-graduate research in Early Irish: a minimum of grade II.1 in the primary degree in either Early and Modern Irish or TSM Early Irish and another subject, or equivalent qualification. (Subject to interview)
  5. For post-graduate research in Modern Irish: a minimum of grade II.1 in the primary degree in either Early and Modern Irish or TSM Modern Irish and another subject, or equivalent qualification. (Subject to interview)

In the case of (4) and (5) applicants who are graduates of other universities will be interviewed to assess their qualifications and suitability for any research projects they might wish to register for. For post-graduate taught courses see the Old Irish diploma and the Early Irish M. Phil.
