Dr Angela Griffith

Part Time Lecturer

Research interests

My research examines the history of the graphic arts in Britain and Ireland from the beginnings of modernist fine art printmaking in the 1860s to contemporary multidisciplinary print practices. Currently, my focus is on Irish artists and their involvement in illustration and limited edition fine art publishing c.1830 to 1930.

Selected publications

  • ‘Irish printmaking in the twentieth century’ for Royal Irish Academy Dictionary of Irish Art and Architecture, forthcoming
  • ‘George Dawson and the Making of Trinity’s Modern Print Collection’, Giltrap, Catherine ed., George Dawson: An Unbiased Eye, Modern and Contemporary Art at Trinity College Dublin since 1959, Dublin, 2010
  • ‘Rhythmic Forms: The constructions of Tony O’Malley’, Irish Arts Review, Summer 2010
  • ‘Impressions: Jack Yeats’ approach to fine art publishing’, Scott, Yvonne ed., Jack B. Yeats: Old and New Departures, Dublin, 2008

Teaching

My principal focus is working with first year students, introducing them the tools and practices of art historical study. Also, I co-ordinate and contribute to a Broad Curriculum course in Irish Art History which is available all TCD undergraduates and visiting students. Furthermore, I am a contributing lecturer to undergraduate courses on the history of the graphic arts which includes themes such as print as a creative process, the development of printmaking methods, the social, cultural and political impact of print, and the print market.
