The Mexican Lecture
An agreement was reached between the Department of Hispanic Studies and the Mexican Embassy in Dublin with the active support of the Provost to establish an annual Mexican Lecture, to be delivered in Trinity by a distinguished intellectual. ‘The Mexican Lecture’ was inaugurated in 2002, and had as its first incumbent the celebrated Mexican novelist, Carlos Fuentes. In succeeding years, the ‘Lecturer’ has come from a host of disciplines, ranging from political science, to history, to literary culture. Its most recent incumbent was the very distinguished writer, Elena Poniatowska. It is also envisaged that each year that the expert will give a number of seminars in his/her field of specialization to Trinity students.
