Space Allocation Committee

This page outlines how you should make a request for space.

The Space Allocation Committee allocates space in college based on requests which it receives from the Faculty Offices. For members of the faculty this is the process involved in making a request.

  1. Download a copy of the form.
  2. Fill it in completely. This is vital. Failure to complete the form will result in its return to the requester
    1. Requesters must obtain the approval of their Head of School for the space request.
    2. Requesters must explain what space they occupy and at which location. Should any uncertainty exist, they should contact the Space Allocation Officer.
    3. Requesters must outline the headcount of their school / business unit as appropriate.
    4. Requesters must identify the space which they would like by its location and size. Requesters should seek the advice of the Space Allocation Officer on these details.
    5. Requesters must provide a reason for the request. Set out in detail (max. 500 words) the necessity for the space requested. This is the chance to convince the committee to grant your request.
    6. Requesters should explain what the implications would be if their request was not met.
    7. Requesters should explain if the space requested meets the college’s accessibility requirements. Consult the Space Allocation Officer if unsure.
    8. Requesters must explain how their space request aligns with their School’s Strategic Plan.
    9. Requesters must explain how the new space will be funded. In the first instance they should liaise with their School Administrator.
  3. When the form is complete it should be emailed to the Faculty Administrator at jrichar@tcd.ie . He will then show it to the Dean who will review it and, if approved, will send it on the Space Allocation Committee. N.B. Requests will not be reviewed if the Head of School has not signed off.
  4. Requests must be lodged two weeks in advance of the Space Allocation Committee meeting.
  5. When seeking space please be aware that the following broad guideline applies.
    1. Head of School 18 – 25sqm
    2. Faculty Dean, 18 – 25sqm
    3. Head of Discipline, 12 – 15sqm
    4. Professor / Assoc. Professor, 12 – 15sqm
    5. Senior Lecturer / Lecturer, 10sqm
    6. Others, 5 – 7.5sqm
