N.B. It is essential that applicants carry out their research study exactly as indicated on the application as approved by the Faculty Research Ethics Committee. If any new information comes to light after ethical approval has been received and the study cannot be carried out using the methods as per the approved application, you must contact the Ethics Committee to seek approval for any subsequent amendments as necessary. Please send any amendment requests to carol.balfe@tcd.ie . The study CANNOT be amended without prior approval from the Ethics Committee.
Further to the Faculty Research Ethics meeting of Tuesday, 30th September 2008, it was agreed by the committee that the Head of Department/School’s signature is no longer required on the Ethics application form. Applications can now be submitted once they have been approved by the supervisor with a view to avoiding applications arriving en masse and thus streamline the review process.
Also, we have introduced a cap on the number of applications to be reviewed in any calendar month. The cap has been set at 20. In the event that we receive more than 20 applications, preference will be given to undergraduate and taught post-graduate applications over research applications.
