Monday 20th February
- 1.15 pm: Launch of Green Week.
ALL WELCOME. Exam Hall steps (if fine)/Exam Hall (if wet).
Guests will include Senator David Norris, the Vice-Provost and the COO. - Dr. Yvonne Ryan, An Taisce (Green Campus Programme Manager)
- The proceeds from the College print cartridge recycling scheme will be presented to Our Lady’s Hospital for Sick Children.
- Details of Student Society Competition revealed - Sponsored by KMK.
The launch will feature a raffle for a new ‘city bike’ (be there to get your free ticket) and ‘spot prizes’ for the ‘Best Dressed Green male & female’.
- 12- 3 pm: Green Fair in Arts Building Concourse (EnviroSoc): Information on ethically produced goods, services and products for sustainable living. Supported by WEEE Ireland, Greyhound Recycling, An Taisce, ‘Young Friends of the Earth’, Cultivate, Fairly Traded (fair trade and organic clothing), County Dublin Bee-Keepers Association.
- 6.30 pm: Simon Perry Memorial Forum: Paccar Theatre - "Green Flag Campus-Think Global, Act Local". In conjunction with Engineers Ireland - Young Engineers Society (YES) present the 10th Simon Perry Symposium: Chaired by comedian Abie P. Bowman. Speakers include Gerard Whelan, MD of Kingspan Renewables, Ltd., Joe Borza (www.EnergyElephant.com), Environment Minister Phil Hogan TD (Ireland's Sustainable Development Plan) and the SU president elect. 'ALTERNATIVE TRANSPORT DAY'
Free Tea & Coffee at the Dining Hall Steps from 8.30 am.
Free ‘Stretch and Flexibility Class’ in the Sports centre from 8.00 - 8.30 am.
The ‘Spokesman’ will be on Campus to solve any technical problems.
- 1-2 pm: ‘Crusts and Cracks’: The Building Stones of the College Campus, led by Dr Patrick Wyse Jackson, Geology Dept. A guided walk among Trinity’s buildings. Starting from the Museum Building, New Square.
- 3.00 p.m: Debating Chamber in the G.M.B The Trinity Centre for Biodiversity Research present Eanna ni Lamhna who is a well known media commentator on environmental issues. Eanna will speak on the theme
“Urban biodiversity: what does Dublin’s wildlife do for us?”

Photographic Exhibition - DUPA. 'One Day One Mile' Photographic Competition. Entries and winners will be exhibited on the Green Pages website.
The competition starts at 12:00 Wednesday and ends 12:00 Thursday - photographers have to take pictures from up to a mile radius around college. Great prizes for the top two winners! You can submit multiple entries. All entries will be exhibited in the end of term DUPA exhibition as well!
The themes for this year's competition are:
- Urban vs. Nature - Recycling - Pollution versus Environment
- 9.30 am: Special Breakfast for Housekeeping Staff (Invitation only) - sponsored by Greyhound Recycling the College’s waste contractor.
- 1-2 pm: Tree Walk, led by Mr David Hackett, Grounds Supervisor. See Trinity’s special trees under the guidance of an expert. Starting from the Campanile.
- 12.00 to 4.00 pm SU ‘Clothes Drive’ in aid of V de P - Arts Building. Bring all your unwanted clothes, shoes, school bags and ruck-sacks.
- 2 - 4: LUCE Hall Ground Floor- Community Garden Workshop (Envirosoc and the Botany Society). Learn from the ‘experts’ - how to grow your own vegetables and flowers in small containers.
- 6.00 - 8.00 pm: Envirosoc present ‘Nuclear Power: Facts and Fiction’!! Paccar Theatre, Science Gallery.Speakers include Denis Duff who is a mechanical engineer currently working in the power generation sector, Prof. Ian McAulay who has a background in health physics, Prof Philip W. Walton, Professor of Applied Physics, NUI Galway and Frank Turvey who is the former Assistant Chief Executive of the Radiological Protection Institute of Ireland
- 1-2 pm: Bird Walk led by Mr Aidan Kelly, Physiology Dept. Starting at the Campanile. See Trinity’s beautiful bird-life with the help of an expert. Bring field glasses or binoculars if possible - a small number will be available.
- 2.00 - 4.00 pm. Envirosoc Art Exhibition at Eliz Room House 6. For entry and competition details contact Envirosoc. Prizes sponsored by Kingspan.
- 5.30 pm: Pavilion Bar - Pub quiz, (Engineering Society) Sponsored by Kingspan. There are Great Prizes for the winners.
- College Library. The Library is supporting College's Green Week 2012 - which is celebrating its 10th year. Videos promoting a selection of books from our modern environmental science collection (many written by, or with contributions from, TCD staff) will run on our information screens in the Library buildings and selected material from our environmental science collections will be on display in the Hamilton Library and the Berkeley Library foyer. Each day during Green Week, our blog will feature individual books from this selection. Details available on the Library Facebook and Twitter ‘pages’
- Sports Centre: Monday 20th, Wednesday 22nd and Friday 24th February from 8.00 am to 8.30 am free ‘stretch & flexibility classes’ will be offered to ‘bikers/walkers’ availing of the ‘active commute showers’ in the Sports centre and those participating in the ‘Alternative Transport Day on Wednesday the 22nd February .
- WEEE Ireland Collection: recycle all your electrical waste in special bins placed around College. Free domestic Battery Recycling Boxes available at Green Week Events throughout the week.

Student Society Competition sponsored by KMK (College’s WEEE Recycling Contractor). Details of the competition will be revealed at the Launch on Monday the 20th February at the Exam Hall at 1.15 pm. Substantial cash prizes for the winners.
- Bike to Work Initiative: The College launched this year’s Bicycle Tax Saver Scheme at the end of January. For further information on the scheme please follow this link (http://www.biketowork.ie/site/bike-shops/)
- Staff who are interested in availing of the scheme please note the closing date for applications is 5pm Friday 2nd March 2012. Please direct all queries to staff.relations@tcd.ie Staff who cycle to work but who are not members of The Sports Centre can avail of free use of showers and changing facilities. Some restrictions apply. Register at sport@tcd.ie.
- Energy Competition: Win a Domestic Energy Meter when you answer the following question - “Which new College Building has a Rain Water Harvesting system”? Visit http://www.tcd.ie/Buildings/collegeenergy.php for the answer and other details about College Energy. Send your answer with your name and College address by e-mail to energy.quiz@tcd.ie before 12 mid-day on Friday 24th February 2012. The 2 winners will be drawn at the end of Green Week.
- Thanks to the SU, the GSU, Student Societies and to the Central Societies Committee for their support, to the many administrative departments in College who provided logistical help particularly the Director of Buildings Office, the Communications Office, the Trinity Centre for Biodiversity Research and The Science Gallery.
