TCD - COLLEGE GREEN or GREEN COLLEGE?
Monday 21st February
- 1.15 pm: Launch of Green Week.
ALL WELCOME. Exam Hall steps (if fine)/Exam Hall (if wet).
Guests will include Senator David Norris, the Provost and the COO. - Dr. Yvonne Ryan, An Taisce (Green Campus Programme Manager) will speak on the Green Campus Initiative in third level institutions. Trinity will ‘sign up’ to the Green Campus Standard at the launch.
- Mr. Leo Donovan, Chief Executive Officer WEEE Ireland, will speak on new WEEE initiatives & reveal details of the ‘Super Student Society Green Week Competition’.
- The proceeds from the College print cartridge recycling scheme will be presented to Our Lady’s Hospital for Sick Children.
- Unveiling of new College Biodiversity Pond.
Tuesday 22nd February
- 12- 3 pm: Green Fair in Arts Building Concourse (EnviroSoc): Information on ethically produced goods, services and products for sustainable living. Supported by WEEE Ireland, Repak, Greenstar, Cultivate, Fairly Traded (fair trade and organic clothing), County Dublin Bee-Keepers Association, Coast Care.
- 1-1.45 pm: Room No 4 - Museum Building. Presentation “How to become a Beekeeper & Products of the Hive”. Eamon McGee - County Dublin Bee-Keepers Association.
- 1-2 pm: Frisbee contest (Frisbee club) College Park

Co-ordinated by post-graduate students from TrinityHaus TCD, and the Urban Institute Ireland UCD

- 1-2 pm: ‘Crusts and Cracks’: The Building Stones of the College Campus, led by Dr Patrick Wyse Jackson, Geology Dept. A guided walk among Trinity’s buildings. Starting from the Museum Building, New Square.
- 6.30 pm: Simon Perry Memorial Forum: Paccar Theatre. In conjunction with Engineers Ireland - Young Engineers Society (YES) present the 9th Simon Perry Symposium: Green Campus TCD - College Green or Green College? Speakers include Mr. Dermot Mulvihill (Recent CFO Kingspan) & Mr. Mark Bennett (Dublin City Council Green Building Officer)

- 7.30: ‘Open Mike’ on the theme of Green Week – TCD - College Green or Green College? Candidates for the office of Provost are particularly welcome to speak and to outline their environmental policies for TCD in the next ten years.
- 7.30 p.m: Debating Chamber in the G.M.B - College Historical Society Green Week debate in association with Foresight Business Magazine “Innovation, Not Austerity, Is the Solution to Climate Change"

- All Day: 1st Annual European Postgraduate Symposium

- 1-2 pm: Tree Walk, led by Mr David Hackett, Grounds Supervisor. See Trinity’s special trees under the guidance of an expert. Starting from the Campanile.
- 2 - 4: Atrium - Community Garden Workshop (Envirosoc and the Botany Society). Learn from the ‘experts’ - how to grow your own vegetables and flowers in small containers.
- 6.00 - 8.00 pm: Envirosoc ‘Peak Oil’ Debate, Paccar Theatre, Science Gallery. Chaired by Paul Cunningham (RTE). Preceded by the presentation of prizes to the winners of the Photographic Society Competition.
THE AGE OF PEAK OIL
Over the next number of years we will be entering into a period where we will have produced half of all the oil existing in the world, and at a time where demand has never been higher. This will have a impact on every aspect of our lives and yet there is little public awareness about such an energy crisis. TCD Environment with the support of the Science Gallery and Feasta will be holding an event called 'The Age of Peak Oil' which aims to bring students and members of the public into contact with influential voices from business and the sciences. It will take place in the Science Gallery on the Thursday the 24th of February from 6pm and tickets are available from the Science Gallery.
- 7.30 pm: Pub quiz, (Engineering Society) – McTurcaills Pub Tara Street. Sponsored by Kingspan – ‘Top Prize’ – a ‘top of the range’ bicycle.
- 1-2 pm: Bird Walk led by Mr Aidan Kelly, Physiology Dept. Starting at the Campanile. See Trinity’s beautiful bird-life with the help of an expert. Bring field glasses or binoculars if possible - a small number will be available.
- 2pm - 4pm Asset Managment Ireland Demonstration of secure on site dàta removal and disposal at the 'flat iron' next to the Pavilion http://www.amiltd.ie
- 2.30: WEEE Ireland ‘Super Student Society Competition’ – Presentation of Prizes (€500) to winning Societies. Front Square – the Campanile.
- 7.30 - 9.00 pm: Junk into Funk Fashion Show (Envirosoc), Pavilion Bar. ‘Strut your Stuff’ on a real Catwalk.To enter, register at the email address for entries to the Junk2Funk competition - environment@csc.tcd.ie. ‘Junk becomes funk’ in this recycled fashion show! Make your used water bottles, old newspapers, posters, etc., into something new again! Your fashion creation of recycled products just might win you the Green Week Design Award for 2011!
All Week - WEEE Ireland Collection: recycle all your electrical waste in special bins placed around College. Free domestic Battery Recycling Boxes available at Green Week Events throughout the week.
- WEEE Ireland ‘Super Student Society Competition’ - €500 in prizes. Details will be revealed at the Launch on Monday the 21st February. Winners announced and prizes presented on Friday the 25th February.

- Photography Competition - Dublin University Photography Association). Entrants can submit photos to dupa@csc.tcd.ie or Postbox 1 in the Atrium, and all entries should include a name and contact details. Deadline is Wednesday 23rd February at 5.00 pm. The Winner will be announced and prizes presented before the ‘Peak Oil’ debate in the Paccar Theatre on Thursday the 24th February at 6.00 pm.
