TCD Green Week 2005
(Our Environment: Where we work and live)

The third Trinity Green Week paid particular attention to the immediate environemnt that surrounds us, at work and at home. The launch of Green Week by Senator David Norris also heralded the launch of the e3 website, an initiative between foor Dublin universtities to cut energy consumption across 30 key buildings. The week also saw the first recipient of the Simon Perry Memorial trophy for an environemtnal initiative by a TCD staff or student. A lively debate on bin charges and a symposium on environmental education were complemented by well-attended walking tours of Trinity's bird life, tree life and building stones to ensure that Green Week goes from strength to strength as an annual event.

TCD Green Week 2004
(Waste Costs: Practising the Three R's)

The purpose of Green Week 2004 was to highlight "green" issues on campus and to encourage all College people to become actively involved in activities to enhance the campus environment. The week was launched by Senator David Norris and this lauch was followed by a tribute to Professor Simon Perry at his commemorative bench. Events during the week included a symposium on the real cost of waste, a Philosposhical Society debate on the privatisation of waste disposal, walks around College focussing on its tree and bird life and many other events!

If you are interested in helping to run future Green Weeks or if you have suggestions of future Green Week activities, please contact the College Recycling & Environment Committee.

TCD Green Week 2003
("Don't waste an opportunity!")

The first TCD Green Week, held in February 2003, had Waste as its primary theme, and focussed on opportunities for waste minimisation, reuse and recycling on campus. The College paper recycling scheme was promoted throughout the week. A guest lecture by Dr. Eduardo Peris Mora explained the role of the Green Office at the University of Valencia (the first university to be awarded ISO 14000 for its environmental auditing). Other seminars included one on energy awareness and energy conservation on the TCD campus, and a memorial symposium, in honour of Professor Simon Perry, with a keynote speech on the environmental consequences of war by Clare O'Grady-Walsh, followed by a panel discussion. The week's events also included a table quiz on environmental awareness, a debate on incineration, nature walks around campus and a green Valentine gifts workshop.

Thanks very much to all the members of the committee and to the many others who have organised and assisted with events for Green week (see programme for details), and to those who have played a role in the Recycling Committee throughout the year!
