Summary of Energy, Climate Change and Greenhouse Gas Emissions:


  • E3 project: 24 buildings on campus with live monitoring of energy consumption. Targeted energy saving measures with a 10% reduction in energy consumption from baseline.
  • Solar water heating evacuated tubes installed on the Lir building and on the Pavilion.
  • Flat plate collectors on refurbished units on New Square.
  • CHP unit installed and operated in Biosciences Building.
  • Pool cover installed in swimming pool leading to reduction in energy use for heating pool and chemical use for treating water.
  • The new Lir Academy Building includes many sustainability features including natural light wells, sawdust collection system and solar water heating system.
  • Heating upgrade projects in Museum Building with burner & controls upgrade.
  • Widespread use across campus of free air cooling systems (e.g. Aras an Phiarsaigh).
  • Installation of 34 solar powered waste bins across College campus.
