Welcome

Welcome to the Junior Freshman (1st year) German language web-pages at Trinity College, Dublin.

These web-pages contain Course information, as well as grammar Exercises for you to do on-line (with immediate feedback). The exercises cover material which our first year students learn during their first year of German at university – and some are more difficult than others.

Don’t worry if some are too hard for you initially, you are not expected to be able to do everything when you start off! The grammar exercises will give you an idea of the level of grammar we expect by the end of First Year German – but remember that you will also be examined at the end of the year on your reading comprehension and writing skills, as well as on your listening and speaking ability.

Read the Introduction to find out more about how to use the exercises.

There is a Help section to help you complete the exercises, with a Glossary of grammatical terms, and links to Grammar references and Dictionaries on-line.

On the course Bulletin board, you can post questions about anything related to your German course that you are not sure about or that you would like more information about. Questions are answered regularly, either by other students, or by someone in the department. Look at the News section regularly for information about upcoming events – from the Christmas party to pub quizzes to important tests!

Finally, there is a section of Links to useful websites where you can find information about German Landeskunde, read German newspapers and magazines, or find yet more language exercises.

We hope you enjoy our pages!
