Year 2 (Senior Freshman) Geology Course 2012-2013
Geology in the second, or Senior Freshman (SF), year is presented as four separate 5-credit modules, two before and two after Christmas. The SF modules focus on acquiring the skills necessary to describe, identify and interpret the rocks that comprise the Earth, the fossils found within them, and the minerals from which they are made, and to describe and analyse the three-dimensional geometry of rock units beneath the Earth’s surface. Students take all four if they wish to take the moderatorship in geology. In addition they must attend a residential field course in the second term; this course is also open to all students taking the four geology modules and is an excellent way of synthesising the material covered during the year.
