Title of Project
Bedrock Geology of Dublin Bay
Project details
The bedrock geology of Dublin Bay is poorly known. The majority of geoscience research to date has focussed on the overlying Quaternary geology and recent sedimentary cover (e.g. Wheeler, Walshe and Sutton, 2001) including the wealth of new information generated by INFOMAR. This project proposes to investigate 21 offshore and two onshore boreholes along two trajectories running east-west across Dublin Bay ,which extend as far east as the Burford Bank and beyond, with the aim to produce a geological map and cross section of the bay.

Postgraduate personal details
I graduated from Trinity in 2004 with a Ba (mod) in Geology in 2008. After receiving my degree I traveled to Australia where I volunteered with some local environmental groups propagating indigenous plant species and writing a report on saving the ‘Gardens of Stone’ national park. Following my time in Australia I went to Colombia and worked as an assistant geologist with an E & P oil and gas company.
On my return to Ireland I began my taught masters in Environmental Sciences (again with Trinity) which I completed in 2011 and I am now undertaking a research masters (still with Trinity).
Project Start Date
