New fossil genus named for Trinity geologist
July 2013
Patrick Wyse Jackson (Geology) has been honoured in having the fossil bryozoan genus Wysejacksonella named for him in a paper recently published in a prestigious German palaeontological journal. This 285 million year old bryozoan has been reported from Permian sequences in northwest China and central Iran, and may also occur in Tibet.
Patrick recently participated in the 16th International Conference of the International Bryozoology Association held in Catania, Sicily. During the meeting he was inaugurated as President and will serve a three-year term and preside over the next conference to be held in Melbourne in 2016.
