All about us

Established in 1960, the Dublin University Geographical Society (Trinity GeogSoc) is one of the most welcoming Societies in Trinity College.

The Society aims to bring students and staff together with a warm and friendly ethos and is comprised of both geography and non-geography students.

By becoming a member you will get the opportunity to meet new people, visit new countries, participate in organised talks, enjoy memorable nights out - and even learn something new about the world around you.

Most of our members join on Freshers' week, each September, however membership can also be acquired by simply emailing the Society.

Throughout the year the Geographical Society holds several talks regarding contemporary and traditional issues in human, physical and environmental geography.

We are always looking out for guest speakers who are willing and interested in talking to the Society with a geographically relative approach. Once a date and time has been agreed, we can organise a venue, refreshments and promotion of the event in Trinity College where we hope you will enjoy presenting your lecture to the members of the Geographical Society.

We run social events such as the Christmas quiz and the Earth Ball, as well as exploring a part of the world on our yearly field trip.

We bring society members and those studying geography together in a sociable environment, and provide ideal occasions to meet other students from both within and outside the department.

In recent years the GeogSoc annual field trip has taken us to the west coast of Ireland as well as further afield to Warsaw, Berlin, Prague and Budapest.

So far the field trip has been a huge success and has allowed different years to integrate and bond. This year we are planning to travel to the Latvian capital, Riga, on our annual expedition.

The year culminates with the Earth Ball, a fantastic night of dinner, dancing and debauchery, including a live band and DJ.

The 2014 event was hosted in the Davenport hotel with over 150 guests in attendance!

The Geographical Society aims to truly embrace the ethos of Trinity and its societies.
