The IQUA Frank Mitchell Award -2011

The inaugural Irish Quaternary Association's "Frank Mitchell Award for distinguished service to Quaternary research and teaching" being presented to Pete Coxon by Professor John Lowe of Royal Holloway (University of London).
Pete Coxon proudly received this marvellous piece of bog oak (sculpted by Kevin casey (http://homepage.eircom.net/~bogoaksculptures/home.htm) and radiocarbon dated to 5600 BP) at a reception at the Geological Survey Of Ireland in Beggarsbush following the IQUA Annual Symposium on Friday December 2nd 2011.
The IQUA symposium (on the topic: Quaternary tipping points: Exploring the dynamics of human and environmental change) was very well attended and continued the recent highly successful run of field excursions and meetings that the organisation has organised.
