What is ALCID?

Academic Libraries Co-operating in Ireland is an arrangement between the libraries of:

  • Dublin City University
  • St. Patrick's College Drumcondra
  • NUI Cork
  • NUI Dublin
  • NUI Galway
  • NUI Maynooth
  • Royal College of Surgeons
  • Royal Irish Academy
  • Trinity College Dublin
  • University of Limerick

It allows full-time academic staff, academic-related staff and registered students reading for higher degrees (e.g. Masters and PhD. Students) access to the collections of each of the participating libraries on production of a common ALCID card.

To obtain an ALCID card you must complete an application form available in the Berkeley Library. Please ensure that you have your TCD ID card with you as staff will have to check this.

You will not be allowed to borrow material from the other libraries but you can read the material there and make photocopies if you wish.

To find out if any of the ALCID libraries have material of interest to you, you can first check their catalogues on the WEB.

  1. Go to www.tcd.ie/Library/Local
  2. Click on Online Catalogues
  3. Click on Irish University and Research Libraries
  4. Scroll down the list and click on the library you want to search.
