RESEARCH INTEREST:

Population Genetics of Neolithic Europe: The expansion of anatomically modern humans into Europe during the Upper Palaeolithic era and the subsequent adoption of farming during the Neolithic age represent major events in human prehistory. These significant transitions involved demographic, cultural and environmental changes which have left a significant imprint on the biological structure and genetic make-up of European populations. By employing high-throughput next-generation sequencing technologies, in parallel with palaeoanthropological techniques, it is intended to elucidate past evolutionary processes which have shaped the genetic architecture of European populations.

EMPLOYMENT EXPERIENCE:

June – August 2010: Molecular Evolution Lab, Smurfit Institute of Genetics, Trinity College Dublin
Supervisor: Dr. Aoife McLysaght
Project: Investigation into the presence of putative human de novo genes in the Neanderthal genome and analysis of human variation within these genes.

EDUCATION & QUALIFICATIONS:

2007-2011: B.A. (Mod) Genetics, Trinity College Dublin; First class honours

OTHER MERITS:

Awarded the Dawson Prize in Genetics and the Ronald A. Fisher Prize in Genetics by Trinity College Dublin (2010)
