Postgraduate Funding
Postgraduates accepted into the French Department’s doctoral research programme are entitled to apply for the following full-time maintenance awards, subject to availability:
1252 PG Research Studentship Award (College Award)
The 1252 Research Studentship Award is open to New and Continuing students on years 1–4 of full-time PhD register. The award is allocated to the School for 3 years i.e. the School may decided whether to allocate an award for 1,2 or 3 years. The value of the award each year is equivalent to EU/non EU fees plus maintenance of €8,000. A small number of such awards is made each year.
Ussher Award
This award is normally granted to outstandingly qualified students for three years of postgraduate study. There are only one or two such awards available each year within the Faculty of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences of which the School (SLLCS) and the French Dept are part. The value of the award each year is currently equivalent to EU/non EU fees plus maintenance of €16,000.
Pichois Award
This award is available only through the Department of French and is granted only to a student pursuing doctoral research in French literature. It is awarded only once every three years. The value of the award is currently equivalent to EU/non EU fees and a maintenance of €16,000. It should next be available from October 2010.
Government of Ireland (IRCHSS) Award
This prestigious award is normally granted for three years of doctoral research though it may be awarded for only one or two years, depending on circumstances. The value of the award each year is equivalent to EU/non EU fees plus maintenance of €16,000. For further details consult info@irchss.ie
Other Awards Arnould Memorial, Owen Sheehy Skeffington Prize, etc
Other annual travel and short-term maintenance awards can be applied for once the student is registered in College. Information about such awards is given in the current university Calendar (Part 2).
