Dr. Christina Hunt Mahony was educated at Marquette University, Milwaukee, Wisconsin (B.A. in English and French Literatures) and took her M.A. (Irish Studies) and Ph.D. (English) at UCD. She has taught at the University of Illinois at Chicago, Georgetown University, and The Catholic University of America in Washington D.C., where she directed graduate studies at The Center for Irish Studies.

Dr. Mahony is the author of Contemporary Irish Literature: Transforming Tradition (Macmillan, 1999), and has edited Out of History:  Essays of the Writings of Sebastian Barry (Carysfort Press, 2006), The Future of Irish Studies: Report of the Irish Forum (Prague, 2006) and is a contributor to The Dublin Review and The Dublin Review Reader. She has written on Yeats, Louis MacNeice, Paul Durcan, Sebastian Barry, Colm Toibin and a selection of contemporary Irish playwrights and poets.  She is an officer of IASIL (International Association for the Study of Irish Literatures), and has served on the executives of ACIS (American Committee for Irish Studies) and SSNCI (The Society for the Study of 19th Century Ireland). She is at work on studies of the plays of Tom Kilroy and of the New York novels of living Irish authors, including Colm Toibin, Colum McCann and Joseph O’Neill.  

Dr. Mahony teaches a Sophister Option on Irish Literary Autobiography.
