Trinity Engineering students awarded prestigious Jaguar Land Rover sponsorship

Unique scheme sees Junior Sophister students awarded with industrial placement and annual bursary from leading vehicle manufacturer.

21 February 2012

Thanks to the efforts of the School Industrial Liaison Officer Assistant Professor Gareth Bennett in the Department of Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering and Mr. Sean Gannon Director of the TCD Careers Advisory Service, it has just been announced that three Engineering students have been awarded Jaguar Land Rover Sponsorship Scheme Awards.

These awards are unique in that after their first placement, recipients are encouraged to undertake further placements with Jaguar Land Rover during every summer vacation, as well as 6 or 12-month industrial placements if appropriate. Whilst contributing to all kinds of premium luxury vehicles, students gain unrivalled experience of real projects, from design to production. This experience is an invaluable supplement to the academic knowledge students will acquire during their studies.

In addition, participants in the Scheme are normally rewarded with a competitive salary while working for Jaguar Land Rover, as well as an annual bursary of £1,500 when they return to university each year to resume their studies.

As well as this investment in their future, students benefit from playing a practical role in the creation of the latest generation of award-winning vehicles. They will also have the opportunity to be fast tracked to the assessment centre for the Jaguar Land Rover Graduate Scheme.

Two Junior Sophister Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering students, Niamh Catherine Daly and Ciara Sweeney each received a ‘Women in Engineering Sponsorship Scheme’ award, while Kevin Haughan, a Junior Sophister Electronic and Computer Engineering student received a ‘Systems/Electronic/Electrical Engineering Sponsorship Scheme’ award.

More information can be found on the Jaguar Land Rover website.
