Succesful reunion event for Engineering with Management graduates

02 May 2011

Friday the 13th may be unlucky for some, but there was no sense of doom about the reunion event for the Engineering with Management degree programme hosted in the Parsons Building by Course Director Assistant Professor Kevin Kelly.
The first intake of students was in October 2000 and several of those students were in attendance some eight years after graduation. In total, approximately 40% of all former graduates were there, with another 15-20% expressing their regret at not being able to make it. Speaking at the event, Course Director Kevin Kelly thanked all those who came and expressed a wish that it become an annual event:
“It was great to see so many of the former graduates there and to hear about their careers since leaving Trinity College. There was a lot of interaction between the graduates of different years and the current Senior Sophister students – which was a key motivation for having the event; creating an opportunity for those students, past and present, to meet and share information in a social setting. It helps the graduates to keep in touch with us and each other, and provides a window into potential career directions for the current students. When you’re close to the course, it is easy to lose sight of how much evolution and development takes place over the years, and the graduates were very interested to hear of all that has happened since and of our plans for the future.”
The evening began with the Senior Sophister students making poster presentations on their final year projects. Once the formal assessment had concluded the postgraduate students also set up posters to highlight the related research activities at graduate student level. Also present were Junior Sophister and Freshman students showcasing some of their project activities such as the quadcopter, robot sumo and resonator guitars.
Former students were welcomed back and served with some refreshments as they mingled with each other and the current students (undergraduate and postgraduate) to see the work currently taking place. The evening concluded with a short presentation by Course Director Kevin Kelly, during which he talked about how the course had developed and the plans for the future and how graduates can stay involved.
