Career Opportunities
Graduates from the BAI degree programme are qualified to pursue an extremely wide range of career options. The BAI degree is recognised for professional engineering purposes by Engineers Ireland, the Institution of Electrical Engineers and other professional bodies, which are signatories to the Washington Accord concerning the mutual recognition of qualifications.

Ireland is now a major player in the computer industry with a substantial number of the world's leading computer companies having operations here. There is enough critical mass to attract further companies in the future, provided that their demand for qualified personnel can be met. There are also an increasing number of very successful indigenous Irish computer companies, which have begun to make a worldwide impact with their products and services. In fact some of these companies such as Iona Technologies, Neos Interactive and Haptica were spawned from the School of Engineering at TCD.

While some of our graduates may enter academic life, most will take up positions in a wide range of companies from small Irish start-ups to large multi-nationals where they will be engaged in the development of the next generation of computer systems. Areas of employment opportunities include system design, software engineering, computer electronics, "high-tech" industries and knowledge engineering. Computer Science graduates may enter careers in many sectors apart from the computer industry itself such as financial and government institutions, consulting, general management, sales, training, healthcare and the service industries to mention but a few.
