Introduction
Engineering has been taught in Trinity College for over
160 years. From its foundation as one of the first
engineering schools in the world, engineering in Trinity
has been in the forefront of technological progress.
Its first professor was an enterprising railway pioneer,
appointed in 1842. Now Trinity’s education continues
at the forefront with contemporary topics like microchip
fabrication, information technology, biomedical engineering,
aerospace applications, management science, urban transportation,
etc.
Trinity’s long and distinguished
tradition of teaching and research is recognised worldwide.
Its library of three million volumes is amongst the
oldest and finest. The College is an open, friendly
and vibrant place. It provides the opportunity of studying
the most contemporary technologies in an appealing university
environment and gathers students and staff from a great
diversity of backgrounds.
The School of Engineering has excellent modern facilities for undergraduate
and postgraduate studies and it has been very successful
in attracting a high level of industrial and European
funding for research purposes.
