International Autism Conference

The Asperger Syndrome Association of Ireland (ASPIRE) is delighted to co-host this important ground-breaking Conference in partnership with the School of Education, Trinity College Dublin, Ireland. Over the two days it is intended to debate and challenge the DSM-5 system of diagnosing high-functioning autism. The Conference will feature key speakers from the worlds of autism research, psychiatry, psychology, education, and the arts.


Sr Alice Drajea presented a paper at the British Educational Research Association (BERA) conference in Sussex, UK in September, titled "Educators' Perceptions about the Influence of Parents' Education on their Children's Achievement in School: A Case of Moyo District in Rural Uganda".

Upcoming Events

Ph.D. student Aoibhinn Ní Shúilleabháin will be giving a workshop on 'An Introduction to Lesson Study' at the Féilte World Teacher Day, Saturday Oct 5th, organised by the Teaching Council. Approximately 40 teachers will be attending the workshop with 300 teachers attending the event. Aoibhinn will also be hosting a panel discussion at the end of the day. Further details.

The Centre for Contemporary Irish History and the Cultures, Academic Values and Education research group (CAVE) of the School of Education wish to announce a Witness Seminar on the university merger between Trinity College Dublin and University College Dublin proposed in 1967-68. Appie Kennedy-Jonker

To mark the occassion of Appie Kennedy-Jonker's retirement, the School of Education hosted a farewell reception in the New Common Room with family and colleagues. Appie was a long standing colleague having worked for the School for over 30 years.


Dr. Colette Murphy has been appointed as a Visiting Research Fellow at Bristol University. Dr. Murphy has also been invited to present at a seminar at Bristol School of Education on October 7th, entitled: 'We don’t need no thought control: perspectives on learning and teaching in the 21st century'. Colette is a also a guest at the Primary Science Teaching Trust annual conference in Bristol (8-10 October).

Two articles have been published in The National Centre for Guidance in Education in the School Guidance Handbook by Ph.D. student Aoife O'Brien and her supervisor Dr Conor Mc Guckin on 'Bereavement' [pdf]. The other titled 'Counter bullying/victim Problems in School' [pdf], by Dr Mc Guckin and recently qualified Ph.D. student, Lucie Corcoran.


The CAVE research group is pleased to announce the publication of the latest issue of the International Journal for Research & Method guest edited by Dr Loxley, Dr Seery and Prof Grenfell. We are also pleased to announce that this edition contains the first paper from a study undertaken by the TCD-UCD Innovation Alliance which was authored by Dr Dan Rogers and Prof  Coughlan.>>>Further details
