Teaching and Supervision

UNDERGRADUATE TEACHING EXPERIENCE

Over the past two decades I have lectured in all four years of the undergraduate programme in Economics. In the past decade I have introduced a number of new teaching methods into my courses:

Group projects (involving data collection outside College).
Use of video to provide case study material for students.
Interactive lecturing with large numbers of students (400+).
Publication of first year notes on the Web.
Tutorial class programme based on group learning methods.

POSTGRADUATE SUPERVISION

Supervised ten full-time postgraduate research students since 1990.
Involved in developing methodology and seminar programme for research students in Economics.

Research

My research over the past 20 years has been primarily in applied microeconomic analysis. Over that period, the topics have spanned four major areas:

What these research interests share is a strong relevance to the major issues of debate in western economies, where government policy may have a role in intervening in the process of change.
