Centre for Urban and Regional Studies and Urban Institute
The Centre for Urban and Regional Studies is a joint initiative of the Departments of Economics and Geography in Trinity College. Founded and directed by Professor P.J. Drudy (Economics) and Dr. Andrew MacLaran (Geography), the Centre brings together a range of inter-disciplinary expertise from inside and outside Trinity in order to address a wide spectrum of economic, social and environmental research issues. A range of publications have resulted, including a series entitled, Dublin: Economic and Social Trends (four volumes to date) edited by P.J. Drudy and Andrew MacLaran. The Journal of Irish Urban Studies is published by the Centre in association with the School of Geography, Planning and Environmental Policy, UCD. The Centre also organises conferences, seminars and meetings relating to urban and regional affairs. A range of grants for commissioned research have been received as well as a Fellowship in Housing. The Centre played an important role in the successful bid to the Higher Education Authority for significant funding to establish an Urban Institute in Dublin, at Richview, UCD.
