The Department of Economics gives preference to students interested in pursuing research on topics in which staff members have a special interest. You should be aware of the research interests of staff. The Department's preference is to recruit students who are willing to work with members of staff on topics of joint interest. You can see a list of areas of interest proposed by members of staff.

All applicants whose first language is not English and who have not been educated through the medium of English must present evidence of English language competency, for further details please visit the Graduate Studies website

The Department does not accept applications for part-time PhD students except under exceptional circumstances where an applicant can make a case that a substantial amount of his or her work time would be of relevance to his or her research. Even in these cases, the Department would want evidence that an applicant can make available a number of block periods of at least three or four months at a time during the research period before an application would be considered.
