SER events: Event with Frances Ruane

2009-01-28

The Student Economic Review will be hosting a workshop on Tuesday the 28th of January at 7.30pm in the Walton Theatre with Professor Dr. Frances Ruane, director of the Economic and Social Research Institute (ESRI) and one of Ireland’s leading economic and social policy experts.

She will address the audience on the short to medium term outlook for the economy and how the prospects of high unemployment, budget deficits, government cut-backs and emigration will affect Irish society in the coming years.

This workshop is a must for anyone studying Economics, Sociology and Public Policy!

The ESRI is Ireland’s leading economic and social commentator, issuing reports such as the Quarterly Economic Commentary and the Medium Term Review which are essential reading for all Irish economists. Since its original inception in 1959, it has provided analysis that has helped to inform economic and social policymaking in Ireland.

Using data provided by the CSO and also collected by its own researchers, the ESRI has worked to identify the trends and changing features of Irish society in the face of growth, prosperity and also recessions.
