Trade Fairs

The role of trade fairs in the international transmission of ideas.

The Research

Trade fairs is a PRTLI funded project, with the research team headed by Gráinne Collins and including Alessandra Vecchi and Emma Calvert. The project is part of the 'Business as a Conduit of Globalisation' research programme running at the Institute for International Integration Studies (IIIS). Further information can be found on the IIIS web page.

Ideas about the proper role and conduct of business get spread around the globe by various mechanisms and are translated and interpreted in the national and local environment. This project looks at the role of one such mechanism, trade fairs, in disseminating ideas.

Using various methodologies (including a questionnaire and ethnography), the team aim to uncover: how trust is created in trade fairs, the role of trade fairs in cities competitive strategies and the role of trade fairs in the supply chain.
