History

In the 1980s James Wickham pioneered sociological research on employment in Ireland with studies of work in the electronics industry. Building on this tradition, the ERC was founded in 1997. Since then the ERC has successfully competed for national and European research grants in the areas of mobility, migration and employment.  In the last fifteen years the ERC has co-ordinated two EU-funded research projects, participated in many European research projects and in several expert networks.

Within Trinity College ERC staff are currently all attached to the Department of Sociology in the School of Social Sciences and Philosophy.
