The Mission of the E3
The E3 responds in a profound and unified way to the two main drivers of change in our world: evolution as the basis for natural change in both the physical and natural world, and engineering driving anthropogenic change. Researchers, educators and innovators across the disciplines of both Schools will come together in a manner that has no precedent in Ireland, and few, if any, internationally. Together, they will:
- Investigate the idea of an engineering-enhanced ecosystem and environment
- Study the ways in which technology and policy now determine what nature actually is, how we value it, and our relationship with it
- Propose technology designs and human interventions to sustain and enhance humankind, the planet we occupy, and the organisms with which we share this planet
By understanding technology as an evolutionary intervention in an environment of constrained resources, new ideas will emerge for optimal design of such technologies and interventions. These designs will sustain current balances, and, in many cases, drive us towards enhanced optima.
