The Samuel Beckett Theatre

The Samuel Beckett Theatre, named after one of the most innovative playwrights of the 20th century, was opened in 1992 to celebrate the quatercentenary of Trinity College Dublin. It is the campus theatre of the University's Department of Drama. During University term time it showcases the work of the Department and its courses, while outside term time it hosts visits from some of the most prestigious dance and theatre companies from Ireland, Europe, Japan and the United States. Regular events at the Samuel Beckett Theatre include the Dublin Fringe Festival and the Dublin Theatre Festival..The Samuel Beckett Centre, the building in which the Theatre is situated, also houses the Department of Drama offices, seminar room and rehearsal studio, along with Players Theatre, the studio theatre of Dublin University Players, Trinity's student drama society.

Disabled Access

The auditorium of Samuel Beckett Theatre is accessible for wheelchair-users. However, advance notification is required to ensure that adequate space is reserved (e-mail fthackab@tcd.ie, phone 01 - 896 1334).

Directions to the Theatre

The Samuel Beckett Theatre is situated towards the centre of the Trinity College campus. A map of the campus is available on the contacts page.

Pedestrian entrances to the campus

  • Front Gate, College Green - open until midnight Monday to Friday, 18.00 Saturday, Sunday and public holidays. Continue walking east past Front Square and New Square, keeping towards the north (Pearse Street) side of College.
  • Nassau Street/Arts Building - open until 22.30 Monday to Friday, midnight Saturday and Sunday. Continue walking north towards Front Square and then turn east (right) past Front Square and New Square.
  • Lincoln Place - open daily until midnight. Walk north and west, to the opposite corner of the open spaces (College Park and the rugby ground).
  • Pearse St Science Gallery entrance: Monday to Friday only until 19.30pm. Walk in a westerly direction, keeping to the Pearse Street side of College.

Public Transport

Trinity College is within 10 minutes walk of all city centre termini, including bus, DART (Pearse Station via Lincoln Place entrance or Tara St Station via Main Gate), Luas (Green Line - St Stephen's Green, Red Line - Abbey St)

Car

There is no parking for theatre patrons in Trinity College; nearest car parks - Setanta (Nassau St), Andrew's Lane (off Dame St) and Temple Bar (Fleet St)
