Transition Year Students at the Bridge2College

Bridge2College (B2C) is a partnership between Trinity College – the Centre for Research for IT in Education (CRITE) and the Trinity Access Programmes (TAP) – and SUAS Educational Development . To date, B2C has provided 100s of transition year students from designated disadvantaged second-level schools with innovative learning experience delivered by volunteer mentors. The students work in teams and use technology to put together projects on subjects about which they are passionate

The volunteer mentors provide guidance and support to the teams. They assist and point the way but do not lead or direct in the learning. They advise and guide where appropriate to ensure that participants are engaged and that teams are informed and resourced. The role involves: teambuilding, monitoring progress, troubleshooting, supporting the mission, low key supervision and technical support. Don't worry if this all seems like too much for you intially, as you will be provided with pre-project training to develop your skills (IT, planning, teamwork and leadership development, health and safety etc.)

Volunteer Meggan Connell says, 'It's great going to B2C because it's a very friendly environment and you can see that the students really enjoy their week on the programme.' Read more about her experience here.
