Trinity College Moves to Wellbeing

News feed for Trinity College Dublin.

Apr 14, 2008

The 2008 Trinity College Health and Sports Week, running this week from April 14 – 18, aims to bring staff and students closer to a healthier and happier lifestyle with its ‘Move to Wellbeing’ theme. Whether through the gentle path of yoga, tai chi and pilates or the more active route, using the gym, power walking, football or swimming, each day the Health and Sports Week will provide students and staff with activities and events that will highlight small changes they can make to improve their wellbeing.

This year a series of lunch-time lectures and workshops will take place for students and staff to attend, on the main campus and also in the Trinity Centre in St James’s Hospital. These will include ‘Getting the best from your medicines’ by Dr Martin Henman, School of Pharmacy, ‘Keeping your brain sharp’ by Prof. Ian Robertson, Trinity College Institute of Neuroscience, ‘A healthy approach to mental illness in college’ with Dr. Niamh Farrelly, ‘Move 4 health workshop’ with Karita Cullen, College physiotherapist, and ‘10 minute de-stress techniques to beat exam blues’ with Sean Ledger 3rd year physiotherapist student.

Other events throughout the week include free lunchtime activities such as yoga, pilates, tai chi, hydrofitness, body toning, power walking and free fitness theatre inductions. Juice and smoothie demonstrations and healthy eating options will feature throughout the College and health check desks and information stands will provide information on a variety of topics including osteoporosis, cholesterol, cervical cancer, money matters and travel health.
