Minister for European Affairs Addresses Students on EU Job Opportunities

News feed for Trinity College Dublin.

Jan 29, 2014

The Minister for European Affairs, Paschal Donohoe TD delivered a public lecture in Trinity College Dublin on the EU career opportunities open to Irish graduates. The lecture was part of a special seminar arranged by EU Jobs Ireland in partnership with Trinity’s Careers Advisory Service, which included presentations by experts from the European Commission, the European Parliament and European Movement Ireland.

Ryan Kenny, GSU President; Aoife Ngo, SOFIA; Sean Gannon, Director, Careers Advisory Service; Dr Patrick Prendergast, Provost; Paschal Donohoe, Minister for EU Affairs; Jessica O’Connor, TCD EUJobs Ambassador;  Vitalia Bik, SOFIA; Professor Juergen Barkhoff, Director, Trinity Long Room Hub; and Jack Leahy, SU Education Officer

During the filled-to-capacity lecture in the Trinity Long Room Hub, the student audience heard that Irish people work throughout every level of the European Union.  The EU Institutions offer graduates the opportunity to pursue a rewarding international career in a uniquely multicultural and multilingual environment.

According to the speakers, linguists and lawyers are always in demand in the EU, but so are economists, ICT specialists and scientists, as well as administrative and support staff with more general backgrounds. The EU also takes good care of its staff, providing an excellent remuneration package and extensive opportunities to develop professional skills.
