Trinity College Dublin and Goldsmiths, University of London, have agreed a strategic partnership that will  build on complementary strengths in arts, humanities and social sciences at both institutions.

The new partnership will enable the development of academic cooperation in research and education and will specifically go to foster the creation of a new Masters programme in Creative and Cultural Entrepreneurship at Trinity with its first intake of students in 2013/14.

Warden of Goldsmiths, Patrick Loughrey and the Provost of Trinity, Dr Patrick Prendergast signed a Memorandum of Understanding this week.

The first of its kind in Ireland, the new Masters in Creative and Cultural Entrepreneurship at Trinity  will be cross-disciplinary, taught by a number of Trinity’s schools:  Drama, Film and Music; Computer Science and Statistics;  Languages, Literature and Cultural Studies; Histories and Humanities and with the Lir Academy of Dramatic Art. The course will integrate entrepreneurship within different creative practices in order to develop new business and career ideas in the creative sector.

Goldsmiths has a strong reputation in this area and through the international collaboration both institutions plan to exchange information on research and educational programmes, including short term continuing education programmes,  seminars, workshops and training programmes. Bilateral exchanges will also be available to students and academics from both institutions.

Commenting on the significance of the partnership, TCD Provost, Dr Patrick Prendergast said:

“There is a complimentarity between Trinity and Goldsmiths as leading institutions in Ireland and the UK in creative and performing arts.  Working together we will succeed in providing an educational programme that will develop cultural, social and commercial entrepreneurship that will open opportunities for our students in Ireland and internationally.”

Warden of Goldsmiths, Patrick Loughrey said: “We at Goldsmiths are delighted to enter into this partnership with Trinity College Dublin. At a time of great change in higher education, this innovative and exciting programme will help students in both of our great institutions acquire skills and knowledge essential for the modern creative economy.”
