Trinity Secondhand Booksale awards grants

Dec 21, 2012

The Trinity Secondhand Booksale has announced grants to the College Libraries of 39,000 - the largest amount of money to be allocated in any year in the twenty-three year history of the Booksale. The funds were generated in the three-day sale held in the Exam Hall last March and from other specialist sales held during the year. As always, books were generously donated by graduates and friends of the College.

Following the annual sale the Booksale Committee invite applications for grants for the purchase of books, maps, manuscripts, etc., that will enhance the research resources of the College Libraries. This year most of the funding has been won by the heritage departments of the Library: 31,500 was awarded to the Research Collections Division which is made up of the Departments of Manuscripts, Early Printed Books, Music and Maps. Grants were also made for the purchase of research materials in Engineering, History, Classics, Geography, and Philosophy.

In welcoming the grants, College Librarian Robin Adams thanked the organisers of the annual booksale for their hard work and continued support in enabling the Library to add important items to its collections of research materials. The Booksale has raised over 450,000 since it began in 1989.

The 2013 sale will be held from the evening of Thursday 7th of March to lunchtime on Saturday 9th March. Books for the sale are now being received at the Booksale Office in Goldsmith Hall. For more information visit or email
