Jun 06, 2012

The Trinity College Dublin Shakespeare Festival, running from  6th to 16th June, is set to be the biggest Shakespeare Festival ever to take place in Ireland. Some 500 performers will take part in over 50 outdoor performances of Shakespeare’s work.

Dedicated to bringing a fresh approach to the greatest dramatist of the English language, the Festival brings performers out onto the streets of Dublin during the eleven days of the Festival. Dublin city and Trinity College will be transformed into ‘living’ spaces in which Shakespeare’s work will be presented and celebrated.

Now in its fourth year, the Festival’s main aims are to bring Shakespeare’s texts off the page and out of classrooms and relocate them into accessible outdoor spaces, and to bring his works to audiences that might not usually have the opportunity to experience them first hand.

Footsbarn Travelling Theatre are the headline performers of the Festival with their production, Indian Tempest, an international adaptation. Previous productions have been described as ‘joyously eccentric, wondrously witty and indissolubly Shakespearean’. This will take place in the Festival’s 700 seat outdoor theatre in the Front Square of Trinity College.
