Trinity College Dublin’s Opportunities Abroad Week was launched by the Minister for European Affairs, Lucinda Creighton, TD. Organised by the Careers Advisory Service and supported by the Students’ Union, this student focused initiative running from 12 – 16 March includes a series of events targeting students who may wish to work abroad.

Minister Creighton addressed Trinity students on the theme ‘A Career in the Heart of Europe’ and spoke about the new EU Jobs Information and Recruitment campaign which promotes awareness among Irish people of the career opportunities available in the EU institutions and the internships available in the hundreds of related organisations.

Commenting on the Opportunities Abroad Week’s events, Sean Gannon, Director of the Careers Advisory Service said: “Even at the height of the Celtic Tiger years Trinity graduates sought opportunities overseas. The recession hasn’t significantly increased those numbers. Graduates continue to value opportunities for further study, career development or just the unique experience which overseas markets can provide”.

The centre piece of week is the Opportunities Abroad Fair which takes place in the Atrium on Tuesday 13 March. A wide variety of exhibitors will be present, and students will be able to explore overseas employment, study options, internships, and/or volunteer opportunities in a variety of sectors. The Opportunities Abroad Week will conclude with an International CV Clinic where students can avail of a one-on-one session with a Careers Advisor.  Diverse areas such as jobs opportunities in the EU, postgraduate study in the USA and teaching opportunities in Saudi Arabia will be covered.

A full programme of Trinity Opportunities Abroad Week activities is available from the Careers Advisory Service website
