Trinity’s GAA Teams Prevail at All Ireland Finals

Both the DU GAA Senior men’s team and the DU GAA second Ladies team won All Ireland titles for the University last week.  The Senior men’s team defeated Blanchardstown IT in the Division 2 league final, with the final scoreboard reading 1-10 to 0-12.  The second Ladies team took the Division 4 title after they beat the University of Limerick 5-9 to 3-7 in the final.

Trinity GAA’s Development Officer and current Co Down senior player, Conor Laverty, said: “What a week for Trinity GAA!  Both games were first class performances from the students with their dedication and commitment over the past 12 weeks being rewarded with All Ireland titles.”  Both matches were well attended by Trinity College Dublin supporters.

The mens’ Gaelic Football final saw sports scholarship recipients, Captain Tomas Corrigan and his teammate Kevin Fitzgerald, lead the team to victory in a match that required each player to give their  to ensure the victory.  The exciting match saw Trinity take the title after wing half back Conor O’Donoghue knocked the ball into the back of the net in extra time.  The ladies Gaelic Football final was also an exciting event that saw the University of Limerick put up a strong challenge against the Trinity side.  Their attempts at goal were denied on a number of occasions by Trinity goal keeper Charlotte McCormack who received a player of the match performance.  Despite their best efforts the UL side could not break through the strong Trinity defense and two late points from Trinity’s Jessica Comerford and Catriona Smith ensured the win for the Trinity side.
