Fourth Week Initiative Aims to Enhance the Trinity Experience

News feed for Trinity College Dublin.

Oct 17, 2011

The Fourth Week initiative, which will run from October 17th to 21st, aims to highlight the central role student led societies and activities play within the lives of students during their time at Trinity College.  Organised by the Central Societies Committee (CSC), the initiative offers both students and staff the opportunity to take part in societal activities and learn how these can enhance the ‘Trinity Experience’.  With over 110 student societies covering a wide variety of activities and interests, there is something for everyone.

It has been proven that taking part in societal activities can help foster a sense of collegiality amongst the College community and also plays a vital role in student retention within the University.  Over 80 interesting and diverse events have been set up for this year’s Fourth Week, ranging from a fish pedicure with the Zoology society to an Irish hypnotist with An Cumann Gaelach, from knitting sessions with the Knitting Society to the Trinity Orchestra playing the hits of Arcade Fire.  All events are free and open to all Trinity students and staff.

For those students that did not have an opportunity to join a society during Freshers’ week, the CSC will run a ‘Society Sign Up’ session in the Examination Hall from 12-3pm on Monday October 17th, featuring representatives from each of the College’s societies.  A full programme of events is available online.  Students and staff can also keep up to date with society events through the CSC website.  Both students and staff are encouraged to take part in at least one of the activities on offer and discover some of the exciting and dynamic opportunities and experiences available as part of the Trinity experience.
